Conflict-Free Minerals Procurement Policy
According to EICC, some metal minerals has become the main income source of non-governmental military groups or unlawful military factions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for purchasing armaments to extend their bloodshed conflicts with the DRC government, and exploiting local civilians, thus causing global disputes. As a world corporate citizen, we hereby declare and agree that we will not accept metals made with minerals from the conflict mining areas, and we also request our suppliers to:
(1)Perform social responsibilities.
(2)Ensure products are free of “conflict minerals” from DRC and its neighboring countries.
(3)Trace the source(s) of the gold (Au), tantalum (Ta), tin (Sn), and wolframite (W).
(4)Communicate such requirements to their upstream suppliers.
Conflict minerals: They refer to the minerals coming from the conflict mining areas. Conflict minerals include coltan, cassiterite, wolframite, and gold ore for refining into tantalum (Ta), tin (Sn), tungsten (W), and gold (Au) (3TGs). As metals made by some smelteries will be banned in the near future, all key suppliers must trace the sources and smelteries of the metals they used on their parts and components. In addition, no metal from anyone of the following countries complies with the Conflict-Free Metal Rules: DRC, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Kenya(countries that are global export routes for DRC-mined minerals as noted by the U.N. Security Council). By establishing the “Conflict-Free Minerals Procurement Policy”, we hereby agree to:
- Not purchase minerals from the conflict mining areas.
- Request suppliers not to use minerals from the conflict mining areas and sign and submit the Declaration on Metal Conflict-Free to KLB.
- Request suppliers to demand their upstream & downstream suppliers to follow the Conflict-Free Minerals requirements.
- Endeavor not to purchase potential conflict minerals from DRC and its neighboring countries.
